PTC1 2011/2012 - Day 3 - A Few Big Names were sent home

The 2011/2012 snooker season has started! 2-day amateur pre-qualifiers ended on Sunday. Today professionals include Mark Selby, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Judd Trump comes to play their opening matches :-)

20.6.2011

Mark Selby played his opener with Zhang Anda who was a Crucible Last 32 finalists in 2010. Selby won it comfortably with scoreline 4-1. Another top 16 player, Stephen Maguire won a thriller 4-3 against Matthew Day despite he is 0-2, 2-3 behind in the match.

Jack Lisowski who was named 'Rookie of the year' on World Snooker Awards this year, secured a 4-1 victory over Ian Glover with 108.

O'Sullivan practised with Chinese players over the weekend for PTC 1
Another notable match in the morning would be 'The Rocket' Ronnie O'Sullivan against Mike Hallet. O'Sullivan started off poorly and was 0-2 down at the beginning. Later Ronnie found his rhythm to win. He scored a 4-2 victory and will be playing Andy Hicks in the next round.
Michael Holt
Michael Holt impressed me this afternoon. He performed superbly! He secured a 4-1 success with 3 centuries (117, 106, 103). 'The shotgun' also earned a whitewash against Les Dodd. Unfortunately Holt was defeated by Joe Jogia in round 5.

'The Whirlwind' Jimmy White had a neck and neck match with Ireland's David Morris. Morris began with 103 and White led 2-1 before Morris levelled the match 2-2. White extends his lead to 3-2 but it goes really tight in the sixth frame. White got 2 snookers needed to force a black spot but Morris won the respotted  black. Morris dragged into decider. Eventually White won the match 4-3. A very intense and exciting match! :)

David Gilbert is the man to beat today. Gilbert was one of the Q School winners last month. On fire Gilbert beats three players (Judd Trump 4-1, Jamie Cope 4-2, Jimmy White 4-1) today! Very well done to him :)

Shock of the day will be John Higgins was sent home. Higgins lost 3-4 to Thailand's Dechawat Poomjaeng in his first match. He won the 2010 IBSF World Snooker Championship to enter the circuit this season. Higgins led 3-1 but Poomjaeng knocks 80, 95 to force a decider. In the decider once again Poomjaeng won it by one visit. But later Poomjaeng was defeated 2-4 by Marcus Campbell.

John Higgins was defeated by Eden Sharav(Right 1)
Eden Sharav is a Scottish amateur and whitewashed Liang Wenbo in round 3. It's never easy for an ametuer to enter the last 16. He beaten Adam Duffy & Gary Wilson as well.

Ronnie O'Sullivan continued his play in the evening. He earned a 4-1 victory over Andy Hicks & whitewashed Bjorn Haneveer. O'Sullivan entered Last 16 and will be back on Wednesday to play PTC Grand Final Runner-up Martin Gould. Gould completed an unbelievable comeback in Round 5, winning the match 4-3 against Nigel Bond from 0-3 down.

There was an interesting clash between Mark Selby & Stephen Maguire in Round 5. The eventual winner was Stephen Maguire, had a victory a 4-2 victory over Selby. Maguire will play against Stuart Bingham in last 16 on Wednesday.
