Higgins beaten Williams from behind to win the title last year |
John Higgins won UK Championship in December right after his six-month ban to declare his return and regain his world number one spot. Higgins won the title by beating Mark Williams 10-9 after trialling 7-9.
The upper quarter of the main draw is as follow:
John Higgins v Rory McLeod
Stephen Maguire v Stephen Hendry
Ronnie O'Sullivan v Steve Davis
Judd Trump v Dominic Dale
Ding Junhui v Mark Davis
Matthew Stevens v Marcus Campbell
Graeme Dott v Matthew Selt
Neil Robertson v Tom Ford
Defending Champion John Higgins is seeded number one but he has a tough draw. Higgins may face his fellow country man Stephen Maguire in last 16 and may play the winner between Judd Trump and Ronnie O'Sullivan in the quarter-finals. It is similar to Higgins' road to win the world title this year after beating O'Sullivan in the quarter-finals and Trump in the final. Indeed Trump v O'Sullivan will be a fabulous clash. Matthew Stevens who just getting back into the top 16 may face Ding Junhui in the last 16. A possible rematch for the Crucible final 2010 is set between Graeme Dott and Neil Robertson.
The lower quarter of the main draw:
Mark Williams v Joe Jogia
Stephen Lee v Ricky Walden
Martin Gould v Peter Lines
Shaun Murphy v Li Yan | ||||
Ali Carter v Robert Milkins
Mark Allen v Adrian Gunnell
Stuart Bingham v Marco Fu
Mark Selby v Ryan Day | ||||
The new reigning world number one Mark Selby is seeded at the bottom of the draw which may meet top16 new comer Stuart Bingham in last 16. Last year runner-up Mark Williams could meet again Shaun Murphy in last 8, after their meeting in semis last year if both of them are through.
