Q School Event One - Passports to the Big Time

What is Q School?


The Q School is a new system for qualifying for the professional snooker tour. Any amateur snooker players aged over 16 can join this event by £1,000. Any professional players who dropped off the tour ( i.e. Players who rank below top 64 at the end of the season ) can join the event to regain a place in main tour as well.  Q School events will run from May 11 to 28, in World Snooker Academy, Sheffield. 124 players have entered.

The coming season (2011/2012) provides 12 seats for players to qualify to main tour. Q School composes of three events. Each event will only played up to SEMI-FINAL - 4 semi-finalists in each of three events can be rewarded for a place in main tour of 2011/2012 circuit. Players can play in all three events.

For those who are successful in the first and second events will be withdrawn from upcoming Q School events. Players who they were drawn against will automatically enter the next round.

Q School Event One

Q School Event One runs from May 11 to 16, 2011. For dates of the remaining two events, please check 'Snooker Calendar' in left hand column of the blog :-) 

Q School entrants include 16-year-old Belgian Luca Brecel, 7-times Ladies World Champion Reanne EvansJason Tarta nephew of Stephen Hendry, Kurt Maflin who qualified for China Open last month. Some Chinese players entered the event too, such as Zhang Anda who qualified for World Championship last year, Tian Pengfei, Yu Delu.

Apart from young players, some legends will participate in the Q School. Mike Hallett and Tony Knowles, former Scottish Open winner David Gray as well as Lee Walker, a quarter-finalist in the Crucible will join the event.

*Luca Brecel may withdraw from Q School events. Some reports told that Brecel's father, Carlo Brecel has received a letter from World Snooker - His son Luca has rewarded a wildcard for 2011/2011 main tour and therefore is not required to compete in Q School. Luca Brecel confirmed it on his official website but there is no news report on World Snooker Website.
