Report From Ally Pally - DOTT SENDS CARTER PACKING

BGC Masters Day 4: GRAEME Dott claimed the last place in the quarter finals of the Masters with a 6-3 victory over Ali Carter. (Suzy Jardine - Ally Pally, London)

But it was Carter who enjoyed the best start as with a 56 he very quickly wrapped up the opening frame. Dott though was not prepared to let Ali have things his own way as he claimed second. It was frame for frame and no surprise that they reached the interval locked at 2-2.

And so the pattern continued, tough dogged snooker from Ali and Graeme as they shared the next two to be level at 3-3. But then the spell was broken as Dott edged a tight seventh when he sunk a long pink to lead 4-3, and then extended his lead to 5-3 with a decisive 56 to put himself within one frame of victory.

There was to be no way back for Ali as Dott with the help of a flurry of small breaks to put him 55-23 in front with just one red and the colours left. Ali could not afford another slip. The issue was all but settled when the Englishman hit the blue giving away five penalty points and with the red sitting close to the top corner pocket Graeme helped himself to put the match beyond Carter.

Dott's victory sees him through to play his fellow Scot John Higgins in a quarter final line up that reads as thus

Ronnie O'Sullivan v Judd Trump
Graeme Dott v John Higgins
Neil Robertson v Mark Williams
Mark Selby v Shaun Murphy
